The process of building relationships that matter, steps describing the way that God reached out to us through Jesus Christ, a pattern for building relationships in ministry. These steps are: observation, positive regard, relevant communication, meeting perceived needs, meeting basic needs, multiplication.

How Jesus Did the Process of the Gospel: Observation - Seeing the Ministry of Jesus of Nazareth Unfold

Coming on the scene in rural Galilee of the Gentiles, Jesus demonstrated a different way of doing ministry than the pompous religious leaders of his day. He related to people on a very intimate level because he was familiar with their everyday lives. After all, he had been observing them

How Jesus Did the Process of the Gospel: What It Is and How It Works

The Process of the Gospel is a simple, practical paradigm for working with the living systems that God has made. I know it can help us relearn community, and become involved in doing God’s work in God’s way because I have used it successfully for almost fifty years. It is a pivotal part of Living System Ministry.

Process of the Gospel: Multiplying in the Living System of our Lives, City and Region

As we see people’s basic needs being met, we need to allow that process to mature – to ignite and breed levels of true multiplication that operate in a chain reaction over the long-term through the living system of many people.

Process of the Gospel: "Love doesn’t mind when others do it better."

“I can do it myself!” Every preschooler wants to learn how to do things by himself. My grandson, Caleb, loves watching a demonstration on TV on how to tie your own shoes. All of us want to learn how to do things by ourselves, to assert our own independence. It’s a part of growing up, of our essential being as humans.

Process of the Gospel: "Their task is done..."

After working with a person or group to see their perceived needs successfully met, we are finally at the point where basic needs can be addressed. In meeting basic needs, you will be dealing with core answers that may solve many other related needs or problems, including, but not exclusively, one’s need for salvation. Meeting basic needs is where the “rubber meets the road;” where we finally sense we are making progress in our ministry that will last a lifetime.

Process of the Gospel: “Build on what they have”

As you engage in relevant communication, people will begin to trust you enough to mention their concerns and perceived needs. It is very important to listen carefully at this point – typically people don’t talk about their needs easily, or it’s very surface level. A person may mention many needs they have, which may or may not be relevant, but we must have a discerning spirit to go beyond what is said to what they are actually dealing with. The person may have a problem with a spouse or a deep financial issue, but it may be expressed in a different or masked way.

Process of the Gospel: “Eyeball to eyeball”

It’s not enough to love someone in ministry, you also have to like them, as we discussed last week. And this is especially true in order to relevantly communicate with them – to listen as well as speak. So where do we start? “Start with what they know,” says the old Chinese proverb. In order to do that, we must first relevantly communicate to learn what they already know.
