Living System Ministry is an approach to Christian ministry in the Western world that recognizes the differences between cats, the world God created, and toasters, the world we create using our technology and our capacities, limited as they are. When we understand the difference, and learn to work in and with God's large living systems, our ministry will be much more effective.

The Cat and the Toaster was written by Dr. Douglas A. Hall, president of the Emmanuel Gospel Center in Boston, along with his wife, Judy Hall, and their colleague in ministry, Steve Daman. The Halls have been working in urban ministry in Boston since 1964. Dr. Hall is also an adjunct professor of urban ministry at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary's Boston campus, the Center for Urban Ministerial Education. Read more about the Halls.

You can order the book several ways: direct from our publisher, through online retailers, or you can pick up a copy in Boston. For details on how to order, pricing, possible discounts, etc., click here.

As of March 22, 2010, we have temporary closed our online learning team sign-up. If you have already signed up, we will get back to you soon. If you have not yet joined, to receive an email with instructions for joining the Living System Ministry Learning Team when we go online again, go to www.egc.org, enter your email in the sign-up field under the left menu, and follow instructions. Then select the list called "Keep me informed about Living System Ministry!" We will send you an email with complete information on how to join when we are ready to launch our new "e-Community of Practice," or what will serve as a "development and action" learning community for Living System Ministry. Thanks for your patience.
